2027 Small Grain Vouchers Are Now Available

Vouchers for farmers and trusted advisors to plan their next step in 4R adoption are now available for the 2026/2027 small grain season. From testing a nitrogen claim reduction product to splitting your nitrogen across the growing season, farmers and trusted advisors can earn a $1,000 planning voucher from the Mid-Atlantic 4R Nutrient Stewardship Association. There will be 30 small grain vouchers available for the final time of our 2024 National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Innovative and Nutrient Sediment Reduction Grant.

August 18, 2026 (Chester, MD) – Vouchers for farmers and trusted advisors to plan their next step in 4R adoption are now available for the 2026/2027 small grain season. From testing a nitrogen claim reduction product to splitting your nitrogen across the growing season, farmers and trusted advisors can earn a $1,000 planning voucher from the Mid-Atlantic 4R Nutrient Stewardship Association. There will be 30 small grain vouchers available for the final time of our 2024 National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Innovative and Nutrient Sediment Reduction Grant.

Voucher Timeline

  • Vouchers will be limited to five per agribusiness until September 18th, then they will be first-come first-serve until we have secured 30 vouchers.
  • Enrollment forms are due no later than November 15th.
  • Planning will take place over the winter months.
  • Voucher reporting forms are due on Match 1st.
  • $1,000 payments will be distributed once all documents have been submitted.
  • Farmer interviews will take place in August 2028.
  • Implementation and cost-share will be available.

Voucher Requirements

  • Fields must lay in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
  • The farm must comply with nutrient management requirements.
  • Be willing to participate in a follow-up interview.
  • One must work with a trusted advisor.

Following the planning portion of this program, farmers are eligible to implement the planned practice and receive cost-share funds. Practices that complete a nitrogen reduction, a nitrogen placement, and/or a nitrogen timing change from baseline practice would be eligible for $35 an acre. Trusted advisors would be able to earn $500 additional funds for ensuring implementation is completed correctly and complete the straightforward paperwork.
